Authorizing communication with NetSuite

To connect to NetSuite, two connections are made. One to enable specific saved search report building and general queries, and the other to support NetSuite's MCP features.

Targeted search connection

To enable saved searches and basic communication to NetSuite, use a role that has permission for saved search and REST Web Services.

Creating a Role with MCP Support

To enable MCP features, the following permissions are required:

  • MCP Server Connection - Allows connection to the MCP server
  • OAuth 2.0 Authorized Applications Management - Manages OAuth integrations
  • Log in using OAuth 2.0 Access Tokens - Enables token-based authentication

A role suitable for most NetSuite administrators is included as part of the RightInsight bundle. The role is titled RightInsight - CFO. It has the same permissions as the native CFO role, with minor additions to enable MCP compatibility. You will need to log out and back in before any newly added roles are available.

In addition, you will need permission for any action you want to be able to take over MCP. For example, creating or reading records, running searches and reports, etc. Common MCP functions are described on the MCP page.

Assigning the role to a user

  1. Navigate to the user's employee record in edit mode
  2. Go to the Access tab
  3. Add the customized role
  4. Instruct the user to log out and then immediately log back in.

Using the Same Role for Both Connections

You may use the same role for both connections, if desired.
