Updating RightInsight

This guide explains how to update your existing RightInsight installation to version 1.05 or higher, which is required for the system to continue working properly.

Required Update: RightInsight Bundle

To ensure RightInsight continues to function correctly, you must update the RightInsight by Protelo bundle to version 1.05 or higher.

How to Update the Bundle in NetSuite

  1. Go to CustomizationSuiteBundlerSearch & Install Bundles -> List
  2. Identify the RightInsight by Protelo bundle
  3. If not on the latest version, a badge should appear by the displayed version
  4. Hover over the green icon on the left side of the line and select "Update"
  5. Follow the steps to confirm the update of the bundle
  6. Wait for the bundle update to finish before returning to RightInsight to reauthenticate

Optional: Enable MCP Features

Version 1.05 introduces enhanced MCP (Model Context Protocol capabilities) that allow AI to communicate directly with your NetSuite data in real-time. To leverage these new features, complete the following optional steps:

Install MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp

  1. Click the SuiteApps tab
  2. Search for Standard Tools
  3. Select MCP Standard Tools from the results
  4. Click Install

Create a Role with MCP Support

To use MCP features, you'll need a NetSuite role with the following permissions:

  • MCP Server Connection - Allows connection to the MCP server
  • OAuth 2.0 Authorized Applications Management - Manages OAuth integrations
  • Log in using OAuth 2.0 Access Tokens - Enables token-based authentication

Option 1: Use the Pre-configured Role

The RightInsight bundle includes a pre-configured role called RightInsight - CFO that has all the necessary MCP permissions. This role is based on the native NetSuite CFO role with MCP compatibility added.

  1. Assign the Role to a User
  2. Navigate to the user's employee record in edit mode
  3. Go to the Access tab
  4. Add the RightInsight - CFO role
  5. Save the record
  6. User Must Log Out and Back In

Option 2: Create a Custom Role

If you prefer to create your own role with MCP support, you can add the required permissions to any existing role. For detailed instructions on role creation and permission configuration, see the Initial Setup guide.

What MCP Features Provide

Once MCP is set up, you'll have access to powerful tools that allow AI to interact directly with your NetSuite data:

  • Create and Update Records - AI can create or modify NetSuite records on your behalf
  • Run Reports and Searches - Execute standard reports and saved searches automatically
  • Query Data with SuiteQL - Run custom SQL-like queries against your NetSuite data
  • Real-time Data Access - Get answers directly from live NetSuite data without manual steps

For a complete list of available MCP tools and their capabilities, see the MCP documentation.

After Updating

Once you've completed the required bundle update:

  1. Test Your Connection
  2. Verify that RightInsight can still connect to your NetSuite account
  3. Test a saved search to ensure everything is working correctly

  4. If You Enabled MCP

  5. Test MCP functionality by asking questions that require real-time NetSuite data access
  6. Verify that the role you're using has the necessary permissions

  7. Review Documentation

  8. Check the Initial Setup guide for detailed information about NetSuite configuration
  9. Review the MCP documentation to understand available MCP tools
